When Love Looks Like a Curse

Heartbreak is a pain that can consume your entire being. It's a feeling of loss, rejection, and overwhelming sadness that can leave you feeling broken and empty. Whether you've recently experienced a painful breakup or carry the scars of past heartbreaks, finding the courage to love again can seem like an insurmountable challenge. For those who love with big hearts, to want to love again can feel like a curse. That’s what came to my mind when I told God that I wanted to give another shot at ministry and love. I thought to myself, “I must be cursed.” “Am I crazy?” "Did I not see what happened the last time?” As crazy as it sounds, Christ took on our curse because of His love for us. Galatians 3:13 reads, “But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, 'Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.'

Someone might ask, well what does love have to do with it? It has everything to do with it. If you still can’t see, life gets to be that way from time to time. We can be so blinded by past pain that we miss all the love around us. So much that we even miss out on how much God loves us. The disciples missed it and they had God in the flesh walking amongst them. My prayer for you is that you don’t miss out on how much God loves you now. He loves you so much that He sent his son to die on the cross for each of our sins. Galatians 3:13 offers hope and a path to healing for those seeking to mend their broken hearts and rediscover love.

While trying to rediscover my love for ministry, I prayed, “What led you to the cross Jesus and how did you stay up there and what raised you from your grave?” His response; It was love! It was God’s love for me. So see love has everything to do with it. It was His obedience to God's love that kept Jesus on His cross. In the same way, His love for us is enough to pick up our cross again. Just when I thought it was a wrap with ministry, His love chased me down again. What I thought was a curse, God whispered “it’s the cure.” What they thought should’ve killed Jesus only led Him to a greater glory. In the same way, what you thought should've killed you, only lead to your greater glory.

You might ask, how do you move forward when you’ve been hurt, betrayed, or lied on? My answer is to let love lead the way. It knows its way. It knows its way through the hurt. It knows it’s way through the pain and the let downs. Just let love lead the way. Sweet friend, if you were hurt by a past love, God wants you to know that it's okay to love again. Their capacity to love was only able to love the broken version of you. But there’s a love waiting to love the fullness of you. The whole you. The real you. If you’re overcoming church hurt, God wants you to know that it's safe to take up your cross again. He sent Jesus before you, so that you didn't have to bear the curse of it. Jesus took the curse, so now you can have access to the cure. Jesus died on the cross, was buried, rose three days later declaring all power is in his hands. And if He already took it and gave us His power when we accepted Jesus then we can take up our cross today. We can give love another shot and begin again too.

Let us pray, Dear God help the reader make a vow to let your love be all that they ever need. Starting here and now, May they declare that they need you more and more each day. Remind them that nothing can take your love away. Here and now we promise to love you faithfully knowing that you’re all we ever need. In Jesus name, amen."
