Amid our circumstances, it can be hard to see that we’ve already overcome our worst days. What we hoped didn’t come to pass already came. The cup we didn’t want to drink from, we drank it. You may ask, now that it's over, what now? What am I supposed to do? I want to challenge you to give God the final say and let him have the last words over your situation.
To be able to praise God amid the unknown, the heartache, and the sleepless nights is how we overcome day by day, moment by moment. The pain might remain, but slowly and surely, you’ll see that it diminishes. Have you tried to sing a new song with sadness in your heart? It simply hurts. It would be cruel for God to ask us to sing a song of praise with sorrow in our hearts. The bitterness we would feel would only choke our praise to the point that we would no longer care to sing.
In our impatience, we want to instantly be placed on our mountain top and given our new song, but first, we must let God lead us out of the valley. Friends, when it feels too much to bear, I pray that you let patience have its perfect work. If you allow God to lead, soon you'll be standing on the mountain you asked God to help you climb over. It's only then that you'll realize that God turned that mountain into the strong foundation you needed; the solid rock of your salvation.
So after you’ve allowed God to lead you to the mountaintop, stand on His promises. With this, you’ll gladly sing, “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.” When people ask how you're able to stand. Simply reply, “I’m standing on his promises."
What are His promises? Here are a few to read in your quiet time:
1. He promises never to leave us nor forsake us. Deuteronomy 31:6
2. He promises to work all things out for our good. Romans 8:28
3. He promises to be our peace. Isaiah 26:3
4. He promises to supply all of our needs. Matthew 6:26
Dear God,
Let patience and your spirit have their perfect work within our hearts as you lead us out of the valley. Help us to make it a choice to look to you for wisdom and lean not on our own understanding. When we reach our mountaintop, may we all sing “ my hope is built on nothing less” and mean it.
In Jesus' name, Amen
