Each new year, we adjust our routines, schedules, and try to reset so that we can get a fresh start in the new year. We look for the new trends, workouts, and try new foods, all so that we can keep up with the flow of life and have some stability. With all the new things we've added to our routines this year, God gives us a reminder in Hebrews 6:19 that we are to keep with the same thing. That seems contrary to what we are always told or influenced to do. In a world that is always trying to get us to do something new, God says to stay with the same thing. That same thing is to keep your soul anchored. An anchor is a symbol of stability, assurance, direction and foundation. It’s an actual force that keeps you unmovable during tough times.
On this day, 5 years ago, I lost a woman that I had made my anchor in this life, my beloved grandmother. I didn’t know how strong of a sense of security she was for me in this world until she was gone. In weeks, my world was flipped upside down, up until about two years ago when God reminded me of my true anchor; Jesus. I was literally the woman with the issue of blood for months and the doctors couldn’t find the issue. Long testimony short, I needed an emergency blood transfusion. That day my doctor was amazed that I was able to walk into the hospital; she explained that I should’ve experienced a heart attack, stroke, or heart failure. It was then that I was assured and reminded that through it all, God kept me safely secured.
Just as an anchor provides security for a ship, ensuring that it will not drift away. Similarly, our hope in Christ gives us security, knowing that we are always held firmly in His love and care.
If you’re reading this and you’re trying to find a new sense of stability for this year or if you just lost your anchor in this life; rest assured that Jesus is a better anchor. We can trust in the certainty of God’s promises because of Jesus. Life likes to whisper doubt, place fear in our hearts, and influences us to look for false security. Out of all the things I’ve ever tried, trying God proved to be the best. I tried God at His word and His word kept me and is keeping me when life’s troubles come my way.
Every year can come with waves unknown and currents that toss us all around, but if we remember that in the word of God, we've got an anchor. It not only keeps us steadfast but unmovable despite all that we may be going through or have gone through. Sometimes, the storms don’t cease, But we can be secured in knowing that if the winds keep blowing, our soul has been anchored in the Lord. May your soul stay anchored in the Lord.
REPEAT AFTER ME:
" I am anchored in Christ, my hope is firm and secure. Just as an anchor keeps a ship steady in the storm, my hope in Him keeps me grounded and unshaken. I trust in His promises and rest in His faithfulness, knowing that He will never fail me. I am secure in His love, and I face each day with confidence, knowing that He is with me always."
