Get Rooted

It's another Spring season, and I know that it can't just be me who thinks that time is moving faster than what I can keep up with at times. Sometimes, I get overwhelmed and think, 'Here we go again.' Let's see if I'll have the strength to force myself to give it my 'all.' I know what you're thinking, 'It's the second quarter, why is she talking like the new year was just last month?' For me, it was just last month. I've realized that it's best to move with the seasons. If God calls nature to rest during the winter, then I will too. Spring is the season where I begin to come alive. Just like a tree is rooted to a source to thrive, we are too!

Colossians 2:7 reads, 'Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.' Picture roots spreading deep into the ground that keeps it connected to a source that sustains in every season. Now think about your spiritual roots. Are they deep and strong, or are they easily uprooted? Just like nature, we can bloom again too. Listen, I don't know the call that's on your life or what God is requiring of you. What I do know is that it will require you to get connected to God so that His power can move through you. If you're sensitive enough to this time, you would know that true connection is needed. It's needed within our relationship with ourselves, with God, within our families, and communities. It's time we move from a transactional relationship with God to an authentic connection with God.

Sometimes we find ourselves uprooted due to life's winds that have blown us over. If you're currently in a season trying to get rooted again, ask yourself, 'What soil am I trying to plant in?' In other words, what are the conditions of my heart? The bible explains it in Mark 4. Some hearts are hardened and do not receive the message. Others receive it with enthusiasm but quickly fall away when faced with difficulties. Still, others are distracted by worldly cares and desires, stifling the growth of God in their lives. We hope to be receptive like good soil, receive the word, and bear abundant fruit. The beautiful thing about being rooted is that with God, we don't just go through stuff, we GROW through them!

While trying to grow, it may feel like you've been buried and you can't see the light. It's uncomfortable, yes, but it's a special place to be. It may even feel like you've been buried, but here's a thought, you've actually been covered by God. That covering keeps us protected so that you can grow into purpose. It's in this time when the Holy Spirit wants to give us a fresh revelation of who God is and how He can show up in your life. I have known God to be my Jehovah, my El Shaddai, my Shalom. Who has God been for you? When you begin to recall who God is, that same power and peace can be within you too.

That growth you're desiring can only happen when you allow yourself to be present, give yourself a moment of rest, make time for God's word and prayer, and allow your heart to be good soil so that strong roots can grow, and you become fruitful. I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your relationship with God. Are you a tree, deeply rooted in God? Or are your roots shallow, easily swayed by the winds of life? I invite you to surrender to God and allow Him to deepen your connection through His word and prayer. As you do this, my prayer is that your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught and overflow with thankfulness."
